Victoria - Tacoma 14th April 2011
A long day today - 460 K's of which 40 was in a ferry.
We left Victoria in the ferry at 10:30am. US Customs was done at Victoria which I thought was kind of strange. The 90 minute trip to Port Angeles was uneventful and nice to be back in the USA.
Victoria is a lovely city and the people are OK but I prefer the USA. The Canadian and Aussie dollar being the same was a bonus but in Australia a dollar item costs a dollar. In Canada a dollar item costs you $1.12. I guess it is the same in the USA but items are so much cheaper here.
The car was where we left it and a quick check of the boot revealed all OK. Just after noon we headed out of Port Angeles along 101 and we skirted the Olympic National Forest with its sensational scenery. It was pretty cold along the road and there was some freshly fallen snow - I took the opportunity to make a snow ball.
We drove to Forks, where some of the Twilight movie was filmed - nether of us saw the movie but took a photo op at the local high school before we headed on.
Some nice coastal scenery and we stopped for a while at Ruby Beach. Rugged beach and some interesting island very close to the coast.
Back to 101 and on to Aberdeen, home town of Kurt Cobain - we didn't stop and headed on to Olympia on the I5 - where we had dinner at an iHop and looked at where to spend the night. The Days Inn we chose was passed due to poor attitude by the lady at reception and we ended up in Tacoma, just a few miles out of Seattle. In a Quality Inn for the night, the lady at reception was a 1000% better - a lady of German origin and we had quite a chat during check-in. Room 300 and now watching the LA Kings play San Jose in the Stanley Cup playoffs. Scott is at the game and it tied at 2 all in regulation.
420 K's driving today - pleasant enough and raining for 95% of the distance.
We are around 900 mies from Cedar City and are aiming for Kennewick tomorrow night. Not bad for a couple from Kenwick!
