7 July 2024

Out at about 8am to go to a Kmart, Scott needed a bag for all the goodies he bought.

Then we dropped the rental car off and walked back to the apartment with a stop at Maccas on the way.

At the apartment we rested and packed and just before 11am headed for the MCG, we left our bags in the apartment.

We walked around the MCG and then as the gates opened we went in and up to the 3rd level, shared a lift ride with Don Pike the Eagles CEO. We were in corportate box number 6 right behind the goals. To say that I was excited is an understatement, it was an awesome experience. We shared the box with 11 other people and had a lovely yound lady, Jennifer, looking after us. We were served with drinks and lots of different types of food. Steak, different meats and cheeses, party pies and sausage rolls, scones and more. It was awesome.

Sadly, the game started and the Eagles were well beaten but it was still an awesome experience. Scott likened it to be in First Class on a plane compared to a normal seat in the outer. I'm not sure what this whole weekend cost but Scott says it was just an extra $80 each for the corporate box, well worth it.

After the game finished we headed back to the apartment to pick up the bags and then had a very pleasant Uber ride back to the airport with Mohammed. Lots of sport talk.

The flight back was the same as the flight there, except in the dark.

I drove Scott back to Beckenham, all the thanks I gave him didn't seem to be enough. Great weekend, then I drove home to Rayls and an excited dog. I think it was 11pm when I got home.

I must have been tired as Scott left the apartment to pick up the rental car without me hearing anything. He had an upstairs bedroom and I had one near the front door. It is an old house but done up very nicely inside and I believe it is for permanent Airbnb use.

After Scott went back we went to Morrabin to a USA Foods shop where Scott bought quite a lot of goodies mostly for Shannon.

Then we drove to Ballarat, the car is a Tesla Y and very nice. We had lunch there, a Pizza Hut all you can eat and pottered about before heading back to Melbourne. Near the apartment Scott had some problems recharging the car, I think we went to 4 different places but we got it done. Then back to the apartment, a walk to Subway for dinner and then back to the apartment.

Left home around 9am and met up with Scott at the Beckenham Bus Depot, he left his car there and we headed to the airport.

Check in was easy enough and we ended up sitting at the back of the plane. The Eagles players were at the front, they had 4 business class seats for the most senior players and then the rest of the players say window and aisle with a seat between them and then us riff raff at the back. The players did come back but mostly just to use the rest room. They did stand around a lot talking to each other.

Once landing in Melbourne we got an Uber to our apartment in Richmond. We dropped our bags and headed for the MCG about a 12 minute walk away. I believe the crowd was 86,000, I think that was the biggest event, crowd wise, I have ever been to. Scott tells me he went to a U2 concer with over 100,000 people.

The game was between Collingwood and Essendon, two teams I dislike but it was a great experience with Essendon running out comfortable winners. Then it was back to the apartment via a 711 for goodies.

Birthday

So, on 19 June I turned 70! Big number.

To my surprise, Scott and Shannon are taking me to Melbourne (and back). Scott and I will go to the MCG on 7 July to see Eagles play Melbourne although we will also see Collingwood play Essendon on 5 July. We will be flying lunch time Friday in the charter plane taking the Eagles players to the game.
