Day 28 - 20th May - Palm Springs
Start the day in Phoenix and hopefully get to Palm Springs, CA. staying at the Westin Mission Hills Villa.
We were out the door around 9:00am. The hotel was good other than the housekeeping staff yelling at top voice along the corridor from 8:00am onwards.
Wal-Mart for a quick visit and then Denny's for breakfast. It has been a few weeks since we have seen either of these two places.
Hit the road a bit before 11am. I10 for 410 K's. Not the most scenic of drives but the Wal-Mart trucks kept us on our toes and we started doing license plates from each state like Jim and Bette do. Kool 94.5 kept the sixties music going for a bit but after an hour or so we were out of range and had to resort to country music. 21 Wal-Mart trucks today, total of 140.
Two quilt shops on the way into Palm Springs - purchases at both. The first was Monica's Quilts and Beads Creations. Spent an hour there and Rayls had a pleasant chat with Pattie who checks quilt blogs from downunder often. Nice shop and it passed my tick of approval because it had a comfortable chair and interesting magazines. Every quilt shop should have a chair for us blokes to be comfortable in whilst the wife shops. The other quilt shop was the Quilter's Faire which was quite close to the hotel. Not as nice but did have a chair.
We got to the hotel, Westin Mission Hills Villa at around 5pm. As the name suggests our accommodation is a villa. It’s very nice too, especially for $58 plus $15 for parking. It is a golf course estate. There is a laundry, kitchen, dining room, lounge with TV, bedroom with TV and bathroom (no TV). Pretty classy place.
We did laundry just a few days ago but what the heck, it is here so Rayls has just chucked a load in.
Around 7pm we headed to an Applebee’s for dinner and then into down town Palm Springs for a weekly Village Fest. a mile walk (and back) down the main street as we checked out the stalls. Very artsy area Palm Springs.
We were back in the hotel, sorry villa, at 10:00pm.
Some interesting street names around here. We are on Dinah Shore Drive. Saw a Bob Hope Drive and a Kirk Douglas Drive. Lots of streets named after palms. On the way from Phoenix we saw a Sore Finger Road!
Tomorrow we aim to drive into LA and out of LA and head part of the way towards San Francisco along the coastal Highway 1. Not sure where we will end up. Hopefully Santa Barbara or even a bit further. Depends on quilt shops and LA traffic.
Oh yes, the villa has two fireplaces as well, lounge and bedroom!

Gary & Rayls,
I'm glad you're enjoying your vacation. Our son lives in the San Francisco area (Portola Valley). One of the things we really enjoy doing there is to visit Muir Woods. It's just a short distance across the Golden Gate Bridge. Have fun!!

PS - If you like wine, we also love to go wine tasting in Sonoma (about an hour north of SF) or Napa. We like Sonoma better. You could taste wines for DAYS!!
